The Inner Critic

You know that inner voice that makes you second guess everything you do? Why do we listen to it? 

  • It doesn't let you live down your mistakes.
  • It makes you feel like an imposter.
  • It never lets you feel that you've done good work.
  • It focuses on all the things you did wrong.
  • It makes you feel like you are not good enough.

Here's some advice: 

Learn to forgive yourself and move forward. You don't want to be held back forever. We resonate with these thoughts and feelings because of previous life experiences that we have chosen to internalize. These statements and thoughts don't have to ring as true. 

Learn to be compassionate with yourself. You may want to first write down the thoughts you are having. For example, "I suck at writing" can be changed to, " I am not always the best at writing but the more I do it the better I become". 

Your inner critic may at times be loud and discourage you from taking chances. Learning how to identify, separate and act against destructive thoughts will help you grow stronger mentally. Eventually that negative inner critical voice will dissipate.
